Respite
Respite care is a valuable resource that offers support to both you and your caregiver for brief periods. This type of care provides a much-needed break and an opportunity to socialize and meet new people.
Respite care services vary based on your unique circumstances, and can be provided for a few hours, several days, or even longer. Care can be given in your home, within your community, or in an aged care home.
What types of respite are available?
In-Home Respite Care: This type of care offers flexible options during the day or overnight and can be provided in your home or community. It typically involves a paid caregiver coming to your home to provide care while your primary caregiver takes a break. In-home respite care is provided under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme.

Centre-Based Respite: This type of care is available during the day, usually at a day centre, club or residential setting. It offers an opportunity to interact with others and participate in activities. Centre-based respite is provided under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme and often includes transport to and from the centre.

Cottage Respite: Cottage respite care takes place overnight or over a weekend in aged care accommodation or community settings other than your caregiver's home. You can take this type of respite for up to two to three days at a time, and it is provided under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme.

Residential Respite: Residential respite care takes place in an aged care home and is best suited to those who require support with most tasks. You need an assessment to determine your eligibility for residential respite, but in an emergency situation, you may be able to access this care without assessment. During residential respite, you will receive the same care and support services as permanent residents of the aged care home, including accommodation, meals, laundry, and personal care. The level of respite subsidy you receive will depend on your assessment and care needs.

The maximum amount of residential respite care you can access is 63 days of subsidised care in a financial year, including both planned and emergency care. This can be extended by 21 days at a time with further approval from your aged care assessor.
What are my out of pocket costs?
A means assessment is not required to access respite care, and the cost of care will depend on the type of respite care you receive. Here are the different types of respite care fees:
-

We access you or your loved ones progress notes, care plans, forms, charts and any other information to ensure you recive a solid report showing whats really occouring. If you have concerns with you or your loved ones care - we will find it and work with you and the Facility to find a solution.
